Fuquay-Varina
at a glance
How it got its name
Fuquay Springs merged with the nearby town of Varina in
1963 to become Fuquay-Varina.
Fuquay Springs, named for the early settlers David and
Stephen Fuquay, was incorporated in 1909. Varina was settled about 1890.
It was named for the postmaster's wife, who used the fanciful name Varina in her
courtship correspondence.
